If you are not happy about your life, change your attitude.
When your attitude changes, so does your life. Keep in mind: Happiness is a result of your outlook to life; it is the outcome of your positive mindset! So, if you really want to change your life you must first begin by changing your mind. “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Abraham Lincoln

When my kids see me frustrated they frequently say: “Tranquilo (easy) Mauchy (my nickname), go with the flow.” Go with the flow…? So what do they mean by telling me to “go with the flow?” The dictionary defines it as not to be willing to push against prevailing behavior or norms, sometimes bowing to peer pressure; it means to not attempt to exert a large amount of influence on the course of events. Wow, “going with the flow” is an antithesis to everything that I promote in my writings. It means not to have a voice or character and to accept everything as you are told. I understand my kids when they tell me to go with the flow; what they are saying to me is: relax my friend; do not get so pumped up, let it go. I do agree with them, sometimes I should take a chill pill and go along... Yet, they should understand that “go with the flow” is the root for inactivity or inaction. It means to accept your situation. -To follow without questioning is wrong... Always understand why you are following. "By doubting we are led to question, by questioning we arrive at the truth" - Peter Abelard Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting a lady that has dedicated her life, more than 40 years, to provide security and hope to young adults.
Deborah Shore is the founder of the Sasha Bruce Youthwork, one of the largest and most experienced providers of services to youth in Washington, DC. They help young people to find safe homes, achieve and maintain mental and physical health, and most importantly creating a stable environment. Debby invited me to visit the organization, where I had the chance to meet 2 incredible young ladies. Both girls arrived to the organization seeking help in finding a place that they could call home. While talking to them, I could feel my spirit lifting and charging with a pleasant energy. Although both have gone through devastating situations, they were not here to complain. They were here to tell us about their future. They were hopeful and excited about life; both have dreams and plans to succeed. They were just grateful! I take my hat off to Debby and the people that work with her and especially to all the young people, that for decades have passed trough Sasha’s doors seeking a better future. Great job! - So, here is my thought: All a kid needs is a person: A person to talk to a person that listens, a person that believes in them… a person to give them hope! Can you become that person? Which traits predict success?
Talent is a gift, however without discipline and direction it will become a wasted gift! “Hard work pays off - hard work beats talent any day, but if you're talented and work hard, it's hard to be beat.” - Robert Griffin III There is not one person that has not dealt with failure; we all have been there… Most of us look at it as something negative. We despise it and we fear it but it is inevitable! Now, here is a thought: Failure is an experience and is up to us to decide how to deal with it. We could allow it to devastate us and surrender, or we could be keen on it and seize it. Accepting failure is the requisite for success. Every failure is a tool, a tool that builds self-confidence and character; a tool that builds a sturdy foundation. Failure makes us wiser, resilient and it's good for us. In the end, if we view failure as a reason to give up, we will never discover our potential! I pledge to my dreams and commit to my goals. Knowing that sometimes I will succeed and other time I will fail. If I fail, I will accept it and move forward. I won’t waste time lamenting over myself; TIME is the only thing that I can never recuperate. My job is to carry on and to stay motivated without giving up on my dreams! The dictionary defines initiative as the capacity to initiate things independently; the authority to act before others; the ability to resolve a difficult situation. To have initiative is to have a fresh approach to life! It means to be proactive, persistent and to be ready to overcome difficulties that will arise while pursuing your goal. When you do things without being told and you keep going when things get tough, doors will keep opening for you. Initiative is a rare commodity and if you posses it, you will be able to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Any type of organization needs people who can react and take action without waiting for someone to tell them what to do. In the end, this type of understanding and courage is what pushes teams to innovate and succeed! How often do we actually achieve results while being too busy?
I bet, not too often. “I’m too busy” is an overused phrase that we constantly hear or use. We need to switch our mindset from being busy to being productive… Being productive means that we are accomplishing and we have tangible results. "Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.” - Thomas A. Edison - So next time when someone asks you for something or a question try addressing the person without using the “I’m too busy” excuse. When PLAN A doesn’t work, move quickly to PLAN B, C or D. The key is to always have a backup plan, one that you can implement ASAP.
However, before implementing you must understand and learn why your plan failed... This lesson will be the foundation of your success! “Rock bottom became the solid foundation upon which I rebuilt my life” - J.K. Rowling |
